Social Media Advertising

Advertising through Social Media is something we had never thought of until we began to see the results of just having an online presence. Suddenly advertising online makes total sense. The minimal cost of advertising online and the fact that you are able to advertise directly to your target market is enough alone to get us on board.

I like the idea of the Sponsored ads more than the promotion ads. With the promotion ads, I believe you are charged per person reached and can pay a few different ways, one of them giving yourself a daily budget. The ad will max out on your daily budget each day. The promotional ads are for the entire page. You are advertising your page. The small advertisement will usually show up on the right had column of your page. The following image is what it looks to place a promotional ad:

The sponsored ads are per post. You are able to set a monetary limit on each post you would like to "Boost". Say, if you chose that you want to spend only $5 on a post that you would like a lot of people to see, this would be the right choice for you.

There are several different types of posts you may want to "Boost," it could be a sales advertisement, "20% off of Christmas Light Installation" or an ad that gives some type of advice relating to the product you are trying to sell. I think the best type of ad is one that the customer engages in.

When you advertise by "boosting" your post, it is sent out to friends of your friends and each time one of them like your page, it is sent out to all of their friends. You are able to control where and who your ads are focused to. Attached is a sample of the Sponsored Ad sign up:

With sponsored ads, I am able to really control how much I spend on advertising, which is a lot less than most conventional way of advertising. Cost is a huge factor in advertising online, but so is the age demographic that is now on Facebook. Their exact age demographic that has increased dramatically is our same target demographic. Also, with the sponsored ads, we can promote the individual posts, especially the ones that are getting a huge reception to begin with. We will also be using the "Boost" option when looking to hire. We want to get the word out there and we like that we can get exact stats for all of the action.

  1. Hi Jessica, I like the way your blog includes clear information on Facebook Sponsored ads with screen shots. An idea I had for advertising for Cockrell Electric is using a photo of an innovative lighting solution that saves electricity and therefore money for your customers. There are so many intriguing looking lighting systems I could see where they would create interest, and hopefully clicks & likes on ads.

  2. I definitely think sponsored ads were the way to go, if you do promotional the cost seems to be more intensive. I also think incorporating deals around the holidays is an excellent idea because many people do not have time to install Christmas lights. Good job!

  3. I too appreciate how sponsored ads allow you to put a cap on the amount of money your company spends on each post along with the opportunity to have more involvement with your audience.
